Finding the perfect haircut can be daunting. There are an endless amount of questions to consider like, should you go trendy? Classic? Bold? And most importantly: will the cut look good on you? When trying to determine whether or not a cut will flatter your face, the first thing to consider is your face shape. While round faces tend to have a cherubic appeal, a bad haircut can make anyone look less than angelic. People with round faces have the tendency to look younger than they actually are, which can be great but often makes it harder to look as sophisticated and chic as they’d like.

How Do I Know If My Face is Round?

Figuring out your face shape is always a lot harder than it sounds, but it doesn’t have to be. While many women assume their face is round, this is how to know for sure:

A face is considered round if the width all the way around is fairly even and full

As a general rule, when trying to decide which haircut is perfect for you think about your favourite facial feature and choose a cut that highlights it.

Face Framing Layers

Long locks are flattering on every face shape, but they’re particularly lovely on ladies with round faces. Though, if your already long hair is lacking body and volume, it’s probably time to step up your style game.

When your hair falls flat, lying against your face, it brings attention to the shape of your face instead of your gorgeous strands. Ask your stylist to cut a few face-framing layers to elevate your look.

A-Line Bob

If you like the face slimming effect of long locks but aren’t interested in actually having long hair, an A-line bob is perfect for you. An A-line bob is the ultimate go-to haircut when styling ladies with short hair. Ask your stylist to allow the hair framing your face to hit just at your jawline and go as short as you’d like in the back.

Side Swept Bangs

If you’re already satisfied with the length and shape of your hair but are looking for a styling solution to give the illusion of a slimmer face, consider bangs.

While blunt bangs have the tendency to make your face look a little short and squat, side swept bangs move the eyes diagonally across your face. The angled fringe makes your face appear longer and therefore thinner.

Blunt Lob

If you’re looking for a super trendy cut, a blunt lob is perfect for you. Many women with round faces tend to steer clear of cuts with harsh lines for fear that it’ll bring attention to the fullness of their faces, but there is a perfect solution. Just angle the blunt perimeter into an A-line, so it doesn't stack out sideways and increase width. Opting for a lob instead of a bob allows you to keep the face framing length that flatters your face, while still slaying the popular cut.

Tapered Pixie

Many women with round faces rely on long locks to give the illusion of a slimmer face, but some short styles are seriously flattering. If you’re looking to go super short, consider a tapered pixie with lots of texture, a great haircut for rounder faces.

The golden rule of haircuts for round faces, is to remember you should have longer pieces that fall onto your face to lengthen your cheeks. Even though a pixie cut removes most of your length, you can still adhere to the golden rule, the key is to keep more length in the front and add some soft layers. Ask your stylist for longer, piecey bangs to frame your face and taper the sides of your hair above your ears to bring attention to the peaks of your cheekbones for a very slimming effect.

Haircut and Styling Don’ts for Round Faces

Generally a square, super short blunt bob on someone with a very round face shape doesn’t work as well because it would draw the eye right to the fullest part of the face. That being said, just because a haircut highlights the fullest part of your face, doesn’t mean you can’t absolutely slay the style.

Whether you go for any of the above haircuts for round faces or not, it’s all about being yourself and seeing what works for you as an individual. Always seek professional advice from your salon if you aren’t sure just yet.
